Gaudi still inspires people…

Nice idea – and very well executed! It is good to see that old ideas can still be used for great design…

Paying /with/ attention

This is a very interesting article… It is about the cost of all the advertising we watch online:

Exerpt from the article:

Well, Solve Media has created a version of CAPTCHA that, instead of nonsense phrases or text strings, makes you type advertising slogans.

The article basically states that people should weight the cost of watching all the ads on a site versus paying for a site to watch it ad-free. The author says that people should realise that their attention is worth probably more than they save by watching the ad.

While I agree, I would say that the hidden cost of all those ‘ad-suported’ sites is even greater: you privacy. Most sites, if not virtually all by now, have ads on them. And technically speaking, companies are using increasingly agressive methodes to track who is watching what online…

There is another, even deeper problem, I think. And it is something people start to be aware of. It is this notion that anything online should be free. Noting is, generally speaking. But online, everybody expects anything to be free. Paying for online content is virtually ‘not done’. What amazes me the most is that nobody seems even to think about it anymore. I have two daughters in the ages of 14 and 15. They expect media to be free. Music? Comes of youtube or limewire. Chatting online, posting pictures online, everything is free – and it should be! Why would you pay for something that was free before? Or that would be free on the next site? Somehow, they don’t ’see’ that all those sites have to be build, maintained, hosted… there is no cost involved, as far as they are concerned.

This is a grave problem for the net.

How can people be taught that creating/hosting/etc content costs money?

As of now, I don’t have a answer :-(

I don’t even like it in movies; too many times it is just a distraction…

Android wipping iPhone’s butt?

It would seem that Android is closing in very fast on iPhone:

More information here. I’m not surprised, for one. Apple is scaring people away with bad press about apps being rejected and nastiness all around. Android is being used on many new handsets now, so I would guess they will speed past Apple very soon. Of course, what Windows Mobile 7 is going to do, nobody knows…

Hell just froze over… Youtube to make a profit?

This is some interesting news…

Apparently, YouTube is about to make a profit. This is amazing, especially if you know how much bandwith they are using… It must cost a lot of money, but it seems it is making even more…
