Soap-flakes

Sometimes you see something you wish you had invented yourself. This is not in production; it’s just a design. But would I love to have one? You betcha!

BP buys up Gulf scientists

BP PLC attempted to hire the entire marine sciences department at one Alabama university, according to scientists involved in discussions with the company’s lawyers. The university declined because of confidentiality restrictions that the company sought on any research.

The Press-Register obtained a copy of a contract offered to scientists by BP. It prohibits the scientists from publishing their research, sharing it with other scientists or speaking about the data that they collect for at least the next three years.

It is really amazing what BP will (try) to get away with…

Damned. We are slowly killing the planet…

These are the remains of a albatros. It has eaten too much plastic garbage that was floating around the ocean. It died directly because of us. And you know what the worst thing is? Most people don’t care: ‘Somebody has to solve this.’ But it is never you, is it? :-(

Photo made by Chris Jordan. From his site:

These photographs of albatross chicks were made in September, 2009, on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world’s most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

Can we please stop buying all this plastic crap? It is easy to do, it will save you money – and the planet at the same time!

Electrical bike – no batteries!

This is a new one: a electrical bike with no batteries! It uses some kind of fuel-cell…

Link

The trouble being, of course, that I don’t know how polluting the producing of “sodium silicide”-powder is…
Long live google:

Link

Sounds like this is not such a great idea after all… sounds like it is not a very efficient energy-carrier… too bad :-(

The cost of cheap meat

Slowly more press is being given to the negative effects of all the cheap meat that has been conquering the markets for the past 20 years…

Link

And not only in the ‘left’ press either. I hope this will change the regulation in these area’s as the ‘reinternalize’ the true costs of a hamburger that costs $0.20 or something like that… :-(

Again, the Onion provides great satire:

Bill Maher: The Environment Is The Ultimate Health Care Issue

Link

Maher was blown away by Holmes’ skepticism and shot down Johnson for opposing cap and trade legislation. Maher pointed out that Republicans weren’t so disgusted by cap and trade when George H.W. Bush used it to stop acid rain.

It’s amazing how hard it is to get through to these people… :-(
